Museum Complete8/6/2017 We are so excited to finally have the Franklin Railroad Depot Museum up and running out of the Baggage and Freight Room of our Historic 1909 Big Four Depot. As always this would not have been possible without our family and friends, we can never thank you enough.
We have been open for just over a week now and I have been amazed by the stories that have been shared with me by men and women from all walks of life that have such fond memories of the railroads of past and the great men and women who made them that way. I did not realize that there is such a large community of people who have a truly emotional attachment to the rails like my own family does; your stories have been truly inspiring to us and have made all of this hard work worth while. I have seen people walk out of the museum with a new spring in their step after remembering some distant memory about the rails. This is exactly why we preserved and restored this building, we will surely never get rich from this business in the monetary sense, but have been made much richer by the experiences you have shared with us. This museum is a gift from my family to yours, we truly hope we can educate the youth on the role of trains in the advancement of this great country, educate the general public about the continued importance of rail, and to provide you some great family friendly entertainment after enjoying some ice cream, delicious candy, and an ice cold soda out of a bottle just like the generations before us. Craig Smith on behalf of the entire Smith Family (Kim, Cameron, and Linden)

Restoration Notes and Thanks5/7/2016 It has been a long time since my last post; we went all-out working 90+ hours per week to finish the Depot restoration. Below is a couple of photos showing the completed restoration. What remains to be finished is the Rail Road Museum that is housed in the old freight section of the Depot.
We could have never gotten to this point without the help of our extended family; we want to thank each and everyone of you that gave of your time, your skills, cooking us meals, your encouragement and for being prayer warriors on our behalf. Thank you so much in no particular order to Dave and Debbie Williams, Tom and Julie Riha, Bob and Tracy Smith, Robert Smith, Beverly Smith, Josh Williams, Allyson Lockhart, Chelsea Augustine, Brendon Riha, Hayley Smith, and Rex Smith. It was such an honor to work with all of you and to witness such unselfishness in action. Thank you will never be enough, but it comes from the bottom of our hearts. I would be remiss if I did not thank my two children; Cameron and Linden for working so many hours to make this dream happen. You have both been an inspiration to me. You are both truly amazing and this business is a true reflection of you both. Special thanks to my Kimberly, you juggled the books, kept the Bed and Breakfast going with a whole lot less help while the kids and I worked so many long hours, and still kept on smiling. May God Bless this Business and may God Bless all of you and all of our dear customers. Thanks, Craig Smith

October 02nd, 201510/2/2015 3rd and Final Clue in our BIG Announcement: Built in 1909 and moved to its current location in 1979 (by a group of thoughtful and creative community members, saving a huge piece of Franklin history), this building has been saved again from a potential move to Indianapolis. This building will again be brought to life serving the local community and visitors to the area. In addition to being home to our store in the near future, this building will also house a museum showing a special slice of history that helped build this great nation. The Museum will be headed by Co-Directors and Co-Curators Cameron and Linden Smith. Kim and Craig Smith will serve as Docents.
